Cornell in Rome Program

A collaboration was formed between the students and Cornell University, specifically the Cornell in Rome Program. This collaboration took place during a workshop focused on “Small Public Pavilion Design/Urban Furniture.” The design project revolved around a lakeside site that featured an existing sala structure, which had been poorly utilized and fallen into disrepair.

The objective of the workshop was to reimagine and revitalize the underutilized sala structure, transforming it into a small public pavilion that would enhance the lakeside environment. The students worked diligently to develop innovative design concepts that would not only restore the structure but also make it a functional and inviting space for the community.

By combining their creativity, architectural knowledge, and understanding of urban furniture design, the students aimed to breathe new life into the lakeside site. The collaboration with Cornell University provided valuable expertise and perspectives, enriching the workshop experience and fostering interdisciplinary learning.

Ultimately, the workshop served as a platform for students to explore the potential of the existing structure and reimagine it as a vibrant public pavilion, contributing to the enhancement of the lakeside environment for both locals and visitors alike.

Indigenous Rangers

This program aims to design and build a new eco-tourism facility for an indigenous ranger community at the upper Nakhon Si Thammarat Mountain Range (NSTR). Over the past few years, INDA has developed intimate relationships with multiple national parks and local communities in the area. Within a protected tropical montane cloud forest (TMCF) lies a distinctive ecosystem known for its biological diversity, endemic species, and endangered wildlife. Under exceptionally humid marine and equatorial conditions, Sanyen (Tai Rom Yen National Park) is one of the largest TMCFs in Thailand. Tai Rom Yen National Park and Khao Luang National Park are working with local communities on an interdisciplinary and participatory approach to develop eco-tourism, educate people about conservation, and implement public awareness programs. Trail networks, exhibition spaces, camping facilities, and an information center must be re-conceptualized under new design frameworks.

Thailicious

The project was created in the form of a student enterprise business model focusing on Thai food in contemporary society. Thai food is usually a sit-down meal, however, in the busy lifestyle of Bangkok, people believe this is too time-consuming. The only time we get to sit down and have a proper Thai meal is when we go home. In the pandemic situation where we cannot go home to visit our families, we are providing a campaign of ‘a taste of home’ in the sense of ‘food from mother’ which can be seen through small postcards that are given out with food orders.  Through a series of workshops with a chef, a nutritionist, and professionals in the culinary industry, the students were required to research and develop the whole process of operating a food business, including creating a menu, prototyping and testing, designing the branding and packaging, planning production and distribution logistics, and analyzing financial feasibility.
