Advanced Info Service (AIS) established the AIS Design Centre (AIS D.C.) as a new venture to welcome startups and anyone interested in design and creative endeavors. At the entry of AIS D.C., an open area is available for the public to view services and information collected via Internet of Things (IoT) devices connected through the AIS network such as weather, humidity, traffic, etc. AIS sought to explore an experimental installation that could visualize or make tangible some of this digital data while providing some on-site interaction that would encourage physical engagement. This interactive experience would be a pilot project that could possibly be duplicated or expanded upon to include additional kinds of information or other locations in the near future.

Students worked closely with the AIS IoT team and the project assistants to design and construct an interactive installation as a standalone object at the entry hall area of AIS D.C. The resulting design visualized environmental data including PM2.5, humidity, and noise from twelve districts within Bangkok through a network of digital flowers in a garden.

Knowledge Hut

INDA’s Design-Build Knowledge Hut is specifically designed to demystify the designing & building processes using hands-on, experiential learning to teach students the sense of good architectural design and the skill & understand of enduring craftsmanship as a single, integrated process. Students designed and built a small library for Ban Klong Pa-Mai School in Rayong with funding provided by Baker & McKenzie Ltd. They gain experience from working with real clients and orchestrate with builders, suppliers, public agencies, & hands-on construction. This creative process offers students unique insight info into oftentimes desperate worlds of the architect and the builder. Architects are routinely trained without any building experience that might inform their design, and builders are trained to execute without a sense of the overarching purpose or design of the project. The Knowledge Hut’s design attracted many local interests, especially from the teachers of Ban Klong Pa-Mai who want to build their own homes based on the Knowledge Hut’s technology & design. Architecture has always been a service profession, but it has traditionally served only those who can afford it. By working for clients who do have access to architecture, INDA students are exposed to community outreach and the notion of all society as our clients. This redefinition of value meets our initial objective of community service & commitment. Lead by instructors Komthat Syamananda and Ekaluck Staporntonapat, the knowledge hut was an intensive project, constantly engaging, challenging INDA students to solve complex domestic design problems through the integration of the

Trimitwitthaya School Canteen

The Trimitwitthaya School is located in Po, Wiang Kaen district, which is the easternmost district in Chiang Rai province, located in the north part of the kingdom, near the border between Thailand and Laos. There are 285 kids who are attending classes in the school today. They are between 4-16 years old, and they are part of various ethnic groups that live in this region including Akha, Moozer, Tai Yai, Hmong, Minority Chinese and Minority Local Thai. The school management and the local community have made many attempts to improve the spatial quality of the school dining space, yet the existing structure didn’t provide the basic needs of a school canteen. Therefore, the aim of this project was to redesign and rebuild the canteen, transforming it into a contemporary dining space – thus improving the conditions in which local kids study, grow up, socialize and experience the space in general.
