DCC Projects 2009

As many of you may be aware, the INDA office is somewhat secluded, and if you are unfamiliar with the layout of the faculty of architecture building, it can be challenging to locate. Therefore, there was a need to create a sign that not only helps people find the office but also displays information and student work. A group of students took on this challenge and designed a permanent fixture for the faculty called the INDA PR wall.

Situated in the “monk ceremonial area” along the north wall, near the rear stairway that directly leads to the INDA office on the 4th floor, the PR wall serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it establishes a presence and identity for INDA at the ground level of our faculty, offering a visual clue as to the location of our main office. Additionally, it serves as a platform for displaying news, events, and student work, which can be easily updated and changed.

The PR wall consists of five mobile panels, each equipped with a pin-up surface on both sides. These panels can be effortlessly moved around and reconfigured to accommodate exhibitions, project reviews, or any other purpose you can imagine.

Ban Muang Khun Pottery Community Pavilion

Ban Muang Khun is a small pottery village ten kilometers south of the center of Chiang Mai. There are thirty craftsmen based here, and they produce unique earthenware using their local clay. The village mayor, Mr. Wachira Seejun (Khun Tang) agreed to work with a group of INDA students to build a “Ceramic Pavilion“ for their community to display and promote their products. The project uses ceramic tiles to decorate and cover the structure. Local craftsmen collaborated on the design and production of the tiles. Students visited the site to understand ceramic production and the local context, and to consider sustainable ways of maintaining the pavilion in the long-term. The design of the pavilion was determined through an internal competition and the development of ceramic tile components and a structural base. Students visited ceramic studios in Bangkok to make prototypes which were later mass-produced at a ceramic factory.

Home Is…

Home is…? It is a simple question that can be answered within a second, but there are many factors that influence and complicate the way we answer. A home may be a space for living in a straightforward sense; however, “home” may also refer to the feelings, the people, the objects, or the different versions of ourselves that we feel comfortable with in a more private setting. Home Is... shows the perspective of a gardener whose regular activities and personalities outside the home are brought back inside and reinterpreted as part of a newly adapted lifestyle.
