Over the summer, a group of students undertook the task of designing the layout and furniture for a Cafe & Gallery in an empty area within Chanhunmumphen school. The proposed design involved repurposing old wood, doors, and cabinet drawers to create furniture for the interior of the space. Once the design of the prototype, including chairs, tables, and shelving units, was finalized, the students dedicated the following weeks to fabricating the pieces in a workshop. Finally, the proposed design and furniture were presented to both the Chanhunbamphen school and the community.

Ban Huai Mae Bon School
A new refectory and multi-purpose space for the Ban Huai Mae Bon school replaces a dilapidated canteen and provides a safe and hygienic dining space while also offering a space for other assemblies and teaching activities. Students developed the overall design and details with the school community, making a series of presentations to the students and teachers. They also managed the costs of the project by coordinating with contractors and suppliers, helped raise additional funds, scheduled the construction process, and aided in building the space under the guidance of a contractor and instructors.

Playground
The playground project is a collaboration between INDA, AmCham, and Su Rau Keo, a Mosque-run community school in the Bang Bua Thong area of Nonthaburi province. Over an 8 week period in summer 2007, lead by instructors Eden Price Reif and Sirintra Vanno,14 students spent about 64 hours engaging local playgrounds to examine positive and negative playground equipment precedents, studying texts and international guidelines, visiting the Su Rau Keo site to interview the stakeholders and user groups to discern their needs and desires, and documenting the site’s local context to better understand the community. After an intense design period, a solution was reached and students hired the contractor in implementing the design while living on-site for 5 days during the month of July, 2008.
