Bioda is an operational facility designed to provide easy access to anyone interested in working with bio-based materials. It offers a range of fundamental tools and ingredients that serve different functions at each stage of the fabrication process. At Bioda, ingredients are locally sourced and ready to be transformed into bio-based materials prototypes.

More than just a workstation, Bioda represents our vision for a world where bio-based materials are the norm, the classic, and the preferred choice for both people and the planet. Our mission begins with designing and building a unique workstation that is versatile and accessible through the DIY construction method. The workstation showcases the integration of multiple materials systems, including an affordable IKEA shelving unit, custom design with ENVIRO board (a composite board made from discarded milk cartons), and handmade Bioda tiles.

2018 Design-Build Projects

Ceramic Experimentation

In this workshop, students explored the potential of Thai ceramic culture by challenging ideas of digital fabrication, modern lifestyle, and traditional ceramics. Each student developed a novel product and a critique of current ceramic wares. In order to improve the design of the ceramic ware, students used a variety of techniques from manual hand pinching to electric wheelers, laser cut pressing, CNC pressing, rapid prototype plaster molding, and 3D ceramic printing. Students also visited the Southeast Asian Ceramic Museum to better understand masterpieces of traditional Thai ceramics. The outcome of the workshop was on display and available for purchase at Open House on the sixth floor of Central Embassy with the support of Shane Suvikapakornkul, the director of the Serindia Gallery. 

2009 DCC Projects

Chanhunbamphen School Cafe/Gallerie

Over the summer, a group of students undertook the task of designing the layout and furniture for a Cafe & Gallery in an empty area within Chanhunmumphen school. The proposed design involved repurposing old wood, doors, and cabinet drawers to create furniture for the interior of the space. Once the design of the prototype, including chairs, tables, and shelving units, was finalized, the students dedicated the following weeks to fabricating the pieces in a workshop. Finally, the proposed design and furniture were presented to both the Chanhunbamphen school and the community.
