B.O.B. takes the concepts of biomimicry and biomimetics to create a captivating experience involving themes of generations, connections, and human-nature symbiosis. With forms inspired by the complex nature of the environment such as the lotus flower, the installation can also be seen as an artwork come to life, mimicking its movements through motions of plant likeness combined with robotic joints and mechanisms, as if it was its own living consciousness. It can also be interpreted as different parts and perspectives of nature; Is it a tree or a magnified view of a plant’s leaf, roots, or branches?

B.O.B purpose is also to inspire generational connectivity through its users, activating different levels of movement and illuminated displays based on factors of age and user quantity. This encourages users to interact and explore the various patterns that can occur, as well as an element of discovery which inspires interaction between the different user generations.

2018 Design-Build Projects

Spectrum

Bangkok Design Week 2018, an annual event organized by the Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) invited the Thai creative community to share fresh and insightful visions of Bangkok with experimental design projects. “Spectrum” is a design-build workshop that proposes an alternative application for plastic bags and examines the architectural properties of the material including color, light transmission, elasticity, and durability. Exploring the concept of “upcycled” materials, students have collected over 500 colored plastic bags, flattened them, and fused them together to generate a cladding surface that includes specially-fabricated segments with a double curvature. The continuously-morphing pavilion structure consists of twenty-six powder-coated steel tube frames that provide different seating configurations, while its modular components and simple construction joints allow for easy assembly and disassembly to facilitate flexible reuse for future events. In fact, it was originally built at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) but was later reconstructed as part of MUI Fest 2018 on the island of Koh Samui.

2023 DCC Projects

Frugal

The project is to design and deliver communal living spaces to an existing low income residential buildings. The buildings provide single aspect small living units and residents have no spaces to socialise or relax away from their bedroom. Some existing communal spaces are fragmented and lack of a vision for social interaction. The project intends to fill this gap using the available open spaces. Focused on and a creative use and re-use of materials readily available, students develop the design starting from a catalogue of materials and ‘parts’ rather than an architectural form, thus learning how to develop a minimal and efficient yet creative architectural design. Particular emphasis is given to the environmental impact of the design whereby students are guided through design decisions within the general strategy.
