B.O.B. takes the concepts of biomimicry and biomimetics to create a captivating experience involving themes of generations, connections, and human-nature symbiosis. With forms inspired by the complex nature of the environment such as the lotus flower, the installation can also be seen as an artwork come to life, mimicking its movements through motions of plant likeness combined with robotic joints and mechanisms, as if it was its own living consciousness. It can also be interpreted as different parts and perspectives of nature; Is it a tree or a magnified view of a plant’s leaf, roots, or branches?

B.O.B purpose is also to inspire generational connectivity through its users, activating different levels of movement and illuminated displays based on factors of age and user quantity. This encourages users to interact and explore the various patterns that can occur, as well as an element of discovery which inspires interaction between the different user generations.

ReSALA

A collaboration was formed between the students and Cornell University, specifically the Cornell in Rome Program. This collaboration took place during a workshop focused on "Small Public Pavilion Design/Urban Furniture." The design project revolved around a lakeside site that featured an existing sala structure, which had been poorly utilized and fallen into disrepair. The objective of the workshop was to reimagine and revitalize the underutilized sala structure, transforming it into a small public pavilion that would enhance the lakeside environment. The students worked diligently to develop innovative design concepts that would not only restore the structure but also make it a functional and inviting space for the community. By combining their creativity, architectural knowledge, and understanding of urban furniture design, the students aimed to breathe new life into the lakeside site. The collaboration with Cornell University provided valuable expertise and perspectives, enriching the workshop experience and fostering interdisciplinary learning. Ultimately, the workshop served as a platform for students to explore the potential of the existing structure and reimagine it as a vibrant public pavilion, contributing to the enhancement of the lakeside environment for both locals and visitors alike.

Ban Muang Khun Pottery Community Pavilion

Ban Muang Khun is a small pottery village ten kilometers south of the center of Chiang Mai. There are thirty craftsmen based here, and they produce unique earthenware using their local clay. The village mayor, Mr. Wachira Seejun (Khun Tang) agreed to work with a group of INDA students to build a “Ceramic Pavilion“ for their community to display and promote their products. The project uses ceramic tiles to decorate and cover the structure. Local craftsmen collaborated on the design and production of the tiles. Students visited the site to understand ceramic production and the local context, and to consider sustainable ways of maintaining the pavilion in the long-term. The design of the pavilion was determined through an internal competition and the development of ceramic tile components and a structural base. Students visited ceramic studios in Bangkok to make prototypes which were later mass-produced at a ceramic factory.
