This program aims to design and build a new eco-tourism facility for an indigenous ranger community at the upper Nakhon Si Thammarat Mountain Range (NSTR). Over the past few years, INDA has developed intimate relationships with multiple national parks and local communities in the area. Within a protected tropical montane cloud forest (TMCF) lies a distinctive ecosystem known for its biological diversity, endemic species, and endangered wildlife. Under exceptionally humid marine and equatorial conditions, Sanyen (Tai Rom Yen National Park) is one of the largest TMCFs in Thailand. Tai Rom Yen National Park and Khao Luang National Park are working with local communities on an interdisciplinary and participatory approach to develop eco-tourism, educate people about conservation, and implement public awareness programs. Trail networks, exhibition spaces, camping facilities, and an information center must be re-conceptualized under new design frameworks.

A Library Under the Treetops
In response to the international brief initiated by Europe Readr, ‘A Library Under the Treetops’ is a project that aims to create a space/installation that redefines the public and private interface. The design intention is to accommodate a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable reading space in an open urban area for people in the residential neighborhood of Ladprao, Bangkok. To blur the public-private boundary, the design process of this reading space/ installation is collaborative in nature, bringing architects, local craftsmen and workers, educators, students, and the local community together in order to imagine and produce a space that creates a social impact in the local environment. Our concept is to generate a sustainable design by sourcing recyclable materials to ensure the long-lasting life span of the project beyond its completion. Ultimately, the goal in producing such a space is to advance a sustained awareness of the quality of life beyond consumption, to stimulate the need for reading and knowledge, and to satisfy the human desire to be with others despite the constraints of the metropolis.

Alfresco Learning
The project is located within the property leased by the Bangkok Vocational School in Khlong Toei district, Bangkok. It is open to local pupils of the Klong Toei community. The new open structure adjacent to the existing building provides additional outdoor learning space. The design of the structure reacts to Bangkok weather conditions by using lightweight material, namely, textile fabric, to provide solar shading. This multifunctional area is now used by primary school students for both educational occupations during the day and leisure communal activities in the evening.
